1967 – 1972: Undertook a five-year professional apprenticeship as a Letterpress Compositor in the printing industry. Successfully completed in 1972.
1972 – 1975: Employed by Eyre and Spottiswood, book publishers as a compositor.
1975 – 1988: Employed by Southern Newspapers in Southampton, England as a Graphic Artist and Keyboard Operator.
1988 – 1995: Owned my own typesetting and design training company. The company was principally set up to train and teach other graphic artists the new technology that was emerging in the late 80s. So in conjunction with our general commercial duties we taught and trained individuals new developments in software used within the printing and publishing industry.
1995 – 2007: Employed by Newsquest International. I had a variety of roles within this company. Mainly as a graphic artist and latterly as a Copy Coordinator, responsible for several weekly and monthly magazines. This was an extremely challenging role with lots of contact and communication with the general public, sales representatives and departments within the company I was employed.
2007 – 2013: Took voluntary redundancy and relocated to the Philippijnes to pursue a business interest I had here. Whilst I was in the Philippines I undertook a TESOL certificate and graduated with a Grade A pass. I since have taught Korean, Filipino and Japanese students to speak and understand the English language. I am capable of preparing Lesson Plans, evaluating my student’s progress and ensuring that my students receive the best and most appropriate training to suit their needs. I really enjoy teaching and understand the necessity of keeping my students motivated and happy whilst providing a fun learning environment. I have also taught accent reduction to call centre workers.
I am a Englishman born just outside the city of London. I have always loved the English language. My accent is a neutral British accent, I have an excellent vocabulary. Whist working within the publishing industry the main core of our work was to provide effective communication using the English language in all forms. Having run my own business I can communicate extremely well through spoken English or the written form.
I enjoy really good health. I am punctual, hardworking and passionate about teaching and explaining the complexities of the English language.
