Risk   Consultant at STANDARD LIFE INVESTMENTS

As a Risk Consultant in   the Enterprise Risk Management team of a leading UK asset manager, I have   been involved in various aspects of the team’s and the wider Risk and   Compliance department’s activities on operational, financial, strategic and   emerging risks; including:

·           Supporting the Enterprise Risk Manager in the   monitoring and reporting of Strategic, Emerging and Financial risk;

·           As principal user on the Financial Conduct   Authority’s online submission system, supporting the timely and accurate   submission of regulatory returns and liaising with the regulator on behalf of   the legal entities;

·           Supporting the preparation of the Internal Capital   Adequacy Assessment Process document;

·           Assisting team management to ensure that all   aspects of the Enterprise Risk Management Framework are effectively managed,   from risk assessment to risk education to the delivery of initiatives aimed   to help enhance the Risk and Compliance function;

·           Providing support to business areas to ensure that   they are aware of and meet the requirements of the internal risk and control   framework;

·           Promoting the ‘one risk community’ initiative by   actively working to enhance engagement and collaboration within the risk   function across offices through organising social, training and other events   and creating online forums in my capacity as representative on the Risk   Engagement Group.

My   duties as an actuarial associate at PwC involved a variety of tasks around   analysing and managing the costs and risks related to the occupational   pension arrangements provided by the firm’s corporate clients; including:

·           Checking scheme data for completeness and   consistency; analysing the data to identify various solutions and opportunities   including possible changes in scheme design or benefit structure to reduce   costs, risk management exercises, or changes in investment strategy;   conducting feasibility studies; performing c calculations in Excel including   different scenarios and/or different sets of assumptions;

·           Reviewing  reasonableness   and consistency of the approach and assumptions adopted by clients for their   accounting disclosures; analysing and benchmarking demographic and financial   assumptions against those of other clients; working with the Audit team to   discuss views and provide recommendations;

·           Preparing reports and presentations for both   internal and external clients, ensuring that complex actuarial ideas are   presented in a straightforward, easy-to-understand way;

·           Business development.
