Related Work Experience

Henan Polytechnic University, Jiaozuo 02/15-09/15

- Teaching Oral English to Chinese undergraduates in classes of up to 120 students.

- Combined a provided syllabus with my own teaching materials to create an engaging, term-long course.  

- Lecturing from a stage required the creative use of powerpoint, worksheets and group work to foster and maintain a dynamic atmosphere between myself and the students. 

- Interviewed candidates wishing to gain overseas scholarships or become classroom assistants, in addition to conducting over a thousand oral examinations. I also represented the university as a judge on CCTV’s The Star of Outlook English Speaking Competition. These experiences have greatly enhanced my ability to quickly and accurately evaluate a speaker’s level of English.         

Interlingua School, Guiyang 02/14-02/15

- Teaching English to Chinese students at an immersion training school for 3-18 year olds.

- Students ranged from complete beginners to advanced speakers preparing to study English at university. 

-This range of levels required the use of dramatically different methods of teaching and classroom management. Thus I am just as confident analyzing Sherlock Holmes with young adults as I am devising silly games to drill phonics with toddlers.  

-Teaching without an assistant to such a broad spectrum greatly developed my ability to grade my language to the appropriate level of my students and taught me the importance of preparing focused lesson plans with room for some flexibility. 

- I was responsible for school productions of Little Red Riding Hood and Toy Story, writing suitably graded scripts, casting children in appropriate roles and preparing them for their end of term performance. 

Additional Work Experience

Dunchurch Park Hotel & La Casa Loca  09/13-12/13

- Working as a barman in a hotel and Mexican restaurant. 

- Responsibilities included serving guests, handling money, making cocktails and cashing-up.    

Splendid Events 09/11-08/13

- Working front-of-house, greeting and serving guests for a VIP events company. 

- Roles have ranged from waiting charity dinners at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle, to manning corporate boxes at the Emirates, Wembley and Lords stadiums. In addition, the job has entailed setting-up and staffing bespoke parties and weddings around Greater London.

- 4 weeks assisting in a local broadcasting and production house.

- Helped run a film-making summer course for  

Labels & Labelling Magazine: Assistant Journalist 10/08-11/08

- 2 weeks working for a journalist at a global industrial magazine.

- Converted multiple press releases into short articles.

- Wrote a 500 word article published in the following month's edition(December 2008).

- Spell checked the publication, finding and correcting errors according to their house style.

Achievements & Interests

- Raised over £1000 for Great Ormond Street Hospital in 2011's Jailbreak, travelling from London to Salzburg in 72 hours without spending any money.

- Former Guinness World Record Holder, 2010, for the longest continuous bounce on a bouncy castle as part of a team of 6. Lasting 27 hours, we raised over￡2000 for the NSPCC.

- Hosted a classic rock radio show on RARE fm 2011-2013.

- Chinese Language and Culture; working towards taking the Chinese proficiency exam HSK4 as well as learning to play the pipa.
