Working as part of this new exciting joint venture between ICL, New Zealand as an IELTS Preperation Teacher at Xindu No1 High School, my fluency in Mandarin and knowledge of Chinese culture means I am also in charge of a team of 8 other foreign teachers. My timetable consists of ESL/IELTS lessons, and a preparation course for ICL College New Zealand. We are currently in the preliminary stages of talks with Cambridge International Examinations and other organisations about bringing a full A-level, SAT and IB curriculum to Xindu No1.

Taught ESL, A-level history, politics, IGCSE, helped develop the curriculum, manage the course content at the elite 5 schools in Shanghai, Jianping (建平中学), No2 High School (上海市第二中学), Fudan Affiliated High School(复旦大学附属中学), High school attached to Shanghai Normal University (上海师范大学附属中学). I was also involved in the setting up of new schools in Shanghai along with Winchester College, Harrow and Eton who are setting up branches in Shanghai.

English Language Teacher, notably worked for China Airlines teaching air hostesses conversational English, also taught one on one with a famous Chinese actress, Chinese customs officials, CEO’s. etc. I tutored architects, students and graduates from Jiaotong, Shanghai Normal University and New York University in Shanghai.

I am a highly experienced teacher of ESL, but also have vast experience teaching history, economics, sociology and politics.

The Titanic 100 Years Project,

On the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic in 1912, I was contacted and offered funding for historical research with the Titanic Museum, in Branston Missouri. My great grandfather Harry and great uncle, Macaulay, were two of the 1503 lives lost on board the Titanic when she sank in 1912. 

I spent the spring touring schools and museums in the USA, notably at the Titanic museum in Branston Missouri, and the Titanic Exhibition in Pheonix, Arizona. I met with some of the  descendants of the Titanic survivors to exchange letter transcripts. After careful historical research, I found that in fact, many of the survivors would have known my great grandfather, as he was a steward in the first class salon, and many of the first class passengers survived. One particular account taken from the letters of a wealthy Scottish American lady in first class and contained tragic, incredibly detailed and moving accounts of Harry’s last moments.

Global Village is the leading adult education chain in Taiwan with branches in Nanjing, Beijng and the UK. I worked for them during my studies as an undergraduate.  Students at its schools are generally aged between 14 and 50 and have varying levels of English.  As an EFL teacher, I planned and delivered four 90 minute classes per day, for both beginner and advanced students.  I also led the school’s mentoring program, helping students analyze and improve their progress. Skills developed through my role included public speaking, organization and communication in a foreign work environment.
