1. Current : World Animal Protection Non-Governmental Organisation · Role 1: I am the research intern and I have researched into the animal welfare organisations in Hong Kong and wrote a detailed report. · Role 2: I also act as the editor for internal documents such as proposals and handbooks and any other notices that are directed to English readers and speakers. Summary of the role: I am here to improve on the application of my research skills and further gain work experience of working within an NGO. 2. Sociology Department Teaching Assistant and Tutor (2012-2014)
· Role 1: I attended scheduled meeting with the lecturer and as the chosen Teaching Assistants and Tutors we discussed the up-coming weeks assignment and what was required of the students. · Role 2: I carefully planned each session out to make sure all important themes and topics were discussed. I had two 50 minute classes per week. · Role 3: I then facilitated conversation between the first and second year sociology students about the assigned reading and assignment question(s) that they were tasked with during the week. We further discussed in groups or in pairs the topics that were covered by the lecturer during the week and unpacked concepts that the students did not grasp well or found very interesting during the week. · Role 4: I was tasked with marking their written work assignments and I followed the rubric and I assessed the way in which each of my students had understood and engaged with the topic at hand. I also checked and corrected any grammatical errors in their work and gave positive and constructive feedback. I also invigilated tests during the term and assisted to mark the longer term papers with the lecturer.
3. Earlier Position—Public Relations Officer (November 2010- November 2011, 12months) · Role 1: I was tasked with upholding the public image of the society through using various media outlets like face-book, email and posters informing Rhodes Students about the work the society was involved and interesting factoids about the Swazi Culture and Customs. · Role 2: I liaised information from the comm. members to the society members about community engagement opportunities that the society members had to sign up for, such as planting the local school garden, tutoring after school hours and planning the end of year Christmas party for the local school we had adopted and fundraising opportunities. · Role 3: I was also tasked with creating relationships with other cultural societies and I decided that doing joint community engagement projects was the most efficient way to get the majority of the members to participant in giving back to the community · Role 4: I also assisted in planning the society fundraising events where we taught the members and visitors about the Swazi culture and customs. I also had to organise the display and assisted in cooking the traditional Swazi food for the highly celebrated International Day food tasting and Parade.
Summary of the position:
I was tasked with upholding the image of Swazi Society at Rhodes University. I had to promote the cultural image of the society and keep the society members highly involved in community engagement and fundraising for the schools we were assisting. I had to create relationships with other cultural societies to continue to uphold the image of a diversified student community.
Earlier Position— Brand Promotion Personal (June 2010 and December 2010,2 months)
· Role 1: I attended scheduled meetings with various companies that required brand promotion to the South African public. · Role 2: For the DStv and Coca-Cola promotions I distributed informational pamphlets about the new company products on offer as well as small branded merchandise to people I had conversations with about the promotional product on offer. · Role 3: For the Mementos promotions I had to politely approach the customers of the designated restaurant where I had ask them to participate in a survey of which I had to digitally capture the data about the promotional brand on offer.
Summary of the position:
I had to promote the designated brand on offer that the client was introducing to the South African public. I did this by informing the South African public I came into contact with about the promotional brand on offer through a survey, distribution of pamphlets or simply approaching them and finding out how much they knew about the product on offer.
