Recent Positions:
2000-2007: Clinical veterinarian with VETPlus at their Reporoa and Rotorua Clinic. This position was
mostly dairy (90%) with some sheep, beef and small animals. I resigned in 2007 due to our move to the
Far North of New Zealand.
2007-2008: did veterinary locums at Maungaturoto and Kamo in Northland, New Zealand, mostly in
large animal practice.
2008-2013: Worked as clinician in mixed practice for Kaitaia Vets, once again mostly large animals,
although we did a broad range of work: dairy, beef, equine as well as small animal.
2013-2014: Diploma course at Eastwest College of Intercultural Studies in Gordonton, NZ. My wife
Debbie studied with me to prepare for living and working in China/Taiwan. The course included
subjects such as leadership, interpersonal relations, working in other cultural contexts, and team
dynamics. We also finished a TESOL qualification at Eastwest College.
2015 to 2017: Production animal veterinarian with VETPlus in Rotorua.
We then left New Zealand to begin our time in Taiwan.
My strengths as I see them are experience (I have seen and dealt with most things!) and an ability to
relate to, and work well with people. I would say I have a good work ethic and am in excellent health. I
enjoy teaching and I like people.
I have interacted with all types of people all my working life
I graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science from Massey University (New Zealand) in 1980,
since then I have been in mostly mixed or large animal veterinary practice in NZ, except for a study
tour in China 1987-1992.
I recently discontinued a Master’s degree in Animal Science at National Pingtung University of
Science and Technology (NPUST).
1993-1999 I was self-employed (as a traditional Chinese herbalist and acupuncturist), but returned to
veterinary practice in 2000 with VETPlus in Reporoa, NZ.
I was born in March 1957, am married to Debbie with 3 grown children. We have three grandchildren
so far. Debbie is studying Mandarin at NPU.
